WESTRON Refrigerant — Why Nigerian HVAC Contractors Trust This Brand
WESTRON® is one of the most widely distributed and trusted refrigerant brands in the UAE and Gulf trading markets — and it has been the refrigerant of choice for Nigerian HVAC importers sourcing from Dubai since well before the current generation of brands entered the market. The reason is straightforward: WESTRON® refrigerant is correctly labelled, correctly filled, UAE-origin certified, and consistently available in the full range of grades that Nigeria’s AC and refrigeration repair market requires — from the still-dominant R22 installed base to the growing R32 and R410a residential split AC segment.
Al Waleed A/C Spare Parts Trading LLC is a long-standing WESTRON® distributor in Dubai, stocking the complete WESTRON® refrigerant gas range at Al Rigga, Deira — available for immediate dispatch to Nigeria by sea freight (Jebel Ali to Apapa or Onne Port) or air freight (Dubai to Lagos or Abuja). Single cylinders, case quantities, and full pallet bulk export orders are all handled through our export desk.
Important — Counterfeit Refrigerant Warning
Nigeria’s refrigerant import market is heavily infiltrated by substandard and mislabelled cylinders — particularly in the R22 segment. A cylinder labelled R22 that contains a mixed or recycled gas blend will contaminate your customer’s AC system, destroy the compressor oil, and damage the compressor within months. Al Waleed supplies only UAE-origin WESTRON® refrigerant in factory-sealed, correctly labelled cylinders — traceable from manufacturer to export documentation. See our guide to spotting fake refrigerant in Nigeria.
WESTRON® Refrigerant Gas Range — Available for Nigeria Export
The following WESTRON® refrigerant grades are stocked by Al Waleed and available for immediate export to Nigeria. Send the grade, quantity, and cylinder size required via WhatsApp for a same-day price and availability confirmation.
WESTRON R22 — Nigeria’s Largest Refrigerant Market
R-22 · HCFC · Available: 1kg · 13.6kg
R22 remains the single largest refrigerant segment in Nigeria’s AC repair market. The vast majority of the Nigerian AC installed base — split units installed before 2015 and virtually all window AC units — runs on R22. WESTRON R22 is available in both the 13.6kg standard cylinder for service technicians and the 1kg mini-can for small top-up jobs and retail trade. Both are factory-sealed and correctly filled.
Applications: All pre-2015 split AC units in Nigeria · All Nigerian window AC units · Older commercial refrigeration systems using R22 · Cold room top-up service
WESTRON R410a — The Standard for New Split AC in Nigeria
R-410a · HFC · Available: 11.3kg
R410a is the dominant refrigerant in all new residential split AC units sold in Nigeria from approximately 2015 onwards — covering the full range of Chinese-manufactured units (Midea, Gree, Haier, Hisense) as well as the Korean and Japanese brands. As Nigeria’s installed base of R410a systems grows, demand for R410a service gas grows in direct proportion. WESTRON R410a is stocked in 11.3kg cylinders — the standard service size.
Applications: All new-generation split AC units in Nigeria · 1-ton to 3-ton residential and light commercial · Cannot be mixed with R22 systems
WESTRON R134a — Automotive AC & Commercial Refrigeration
R-134a · HFC · Available: 13.6kg
R134a serves two large and growing markets in Nigeria: automotive AC systems across the entire Nigerian vehicle fleet, and commercial and domestic refrigeration systems including supermarket display cabinets, domestic refrigerators, and water dispensers. Nigerian automotive AC workshops are one of the highest-volume R134a buyers — the tropical climate means vehicle AC systems run continuously and require regular recharging.
Applications: Automotive AC (all vehicles) · Domestic refrigerators · Commercial display refrigeration · Water dispensers
WESTRON R32 — Growing Fast in Nigeria’s New AC Segment
R-32 · HFC · Lower GWP · Available: 10kg
R32 is rapidly replacing R410a as the refrigerant of choice in new split AC systems — driven by its lower global warming potential (GWP) and higher energy efficiency. The latest generation of Daikin, Mitsubishi, Midea, and Gree units entering the Nigerian market use R32. Nigerian dealers who are not yet stocking R32 will face a growing service gap as their R32-equipped customers need recharging. R32 requires specific handling precautions — it is mildly flammable (A2L classification).
Applications: Latest-generation Daikin, Mitsubishi, Midea, Gree split AC · Not compatible with R410a systems
WESTRON R600a — Domestic Refrigerators & Freezers
R-600a · Isobutane · HC · Available: 420g
R600a (isobutane) is the refrigerant used in virtually all modern domestic refrigerators and freezers manufactured since approximately 2008 — covering the full range of Samsung, LG, Haier, Hisense, and local Nigerian brand fridges in use across Nigeria. The domestic refrigerator repair market in Nigeria is large and active — NEPA’s power cuts cycle fridges on and off continuously, stressing compressors and seals. WESTRON R600a is available in 420g cans — the standard service size for domestic fridge recharge.
Important: R600a is highly flammable (A3). No open flames during service. Dedicated R600a manifold gauge required — do not use R22 equipment.
WESTRON R404a, R407c & R507 — Commercial Refrigeration
R-404a · R-407c · R-507 · HFC Blends
R404a and R507 are the standard refrigerants in Nigerian commercial and industrial refrigeration — supermarket display cases, walk-in cold rooms, pharmaceutical cold stores, food processing plants, and hotel kitchen refrigeration. R407c is used in commercial AC systems (fan coil units, VRF, chillers) installed across Nigerian hotels, hospitals, and office buildings. Al Waleed stocks all three grades for Nigeria export from Jebel Ali.
Applications: Supermarket cold rooms · Walk-in freezers · Commercial VRF AC · Hospital cold chain · Food processing
WESTRON R22 in Nigeria — 13.6kg vs 1kg: Which to Import
R22 is available in two cylinder sizes from Al Waleed — the standard 13.6kg service cylinder and the 1kg mini-can. For Nigerian importers deciding which to stock, the choice depends on your customer base and how you intend to sell.
| Feature | WESTRON R22 13.6kg Cylinder | WESTRON R22 1kg Mini-Can |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | HVAC contractors, service companies, large dealers | Retail spare parts shops, small technicians, resale |
| Typical usage | Full system charge or multi-unit service runs | Single unit top-up, retail sale per can |
| Import efficiency | Lower landed cost per kg — better for bulk import | Higher margin per unit at retail — better sell-through |
| Shipping | Sea freight — IMDG compliant pallet export | Sea freight — case quantities, compact packing |
| Minimum order | WhatsApp for current MOQ and pricing | WhatsApp for current MOQ and pricing |
Recommendation for Nigerian dealers: Most high-volume Nigerian HVAC dealers import a mix — 13.6kg cylinders for their own service technicians and wholesale customers, and 1kg cans for retail counter sales. The 1kg format sells easily at Alaba International Market (Lagos) and Wuse Market (Abuja) at a strong retail margin. WhatsApp our export desk with your target quantities for a blended price on both sizes.
Why WESTRON® — What Separates Genuine Refrigerant from What Nigeria Often Gets Instead
Correct Purity — 99.9% and Above
WESTRON® refrigerant is manufactured to industry-standard purity specifications — 99.9% or above for single-component gases. Sub-standard refrigerant sold in Nigerian markets is often a recycled blend, a lower-grade industrial gas, or a cylinder deliberately mixed with a cheaper substance to extend volume. Impure refrigerant reduces system efficiency, degrades compressor oil, and causes acid formation that destroys compressor internals over time. Purity cannot be checked in the field — it must be guaranteed at source.
Correct Fill Weight — Verified at Manufacturing
Every WESTRON® cylinder is filled to the stated weight and sealed at manufacturing. A common fraud in Nigeria’s grey-market refrigerant supply is cylinders that are nominally labelled as 13.6kg but contain only 10–11kg. The technician charges the AC system, the pressure looks right at first, but the system is undercharged — reducing cooling efficiency and eventually damaging the compressor from liquid slugging or oil starvation. WESTRON® cylinders weigh what they state on the label.
Correct Labelling — What It Says Is What It Contains
The most dangerous counterfeit scenario for a Nigerian HVAC technician is a cylinder labelled R22 that actually contains R410a, or vice versa. R410a operates at significantly higher pressures than R22 — introducing it into an R22 system can rupture hoses, valves, or the compressor. WESTRON® cylinders are correctly labelled at the manufacturing facility and sealed before export. The label accurately identifies the gas, grade, purity, fill weight, and cylinder tare weight.
UAE-Origin Documentation for Nigerian Customs
Al Waleed supplies correct export documentation with every WESTRON® refrigerant shipment — commercial invoice, packing list, and certificate of origin. Refrigerant gas shipments require accurate hazardous goods documentation for Nigerian customs clearance at Apapa, Onne Port, and Lagos airport. Incorrect or missing IMDG documentation is one of the most common causes of refrigerant shipment delays and demurrage costs at Nigerian ports. We prepare documentation correctly on every order.

Frequently Asked Questions — WESTRON Refrigerant for Nigeria
Can I mix WESTRON R22 with other brands of R22 already in the system?
Single-component refrigerants of the same grade from different manufacturers can generally be mixed — R22 is R22 regardless of brand, provided both are pure single-component gas at the correct specification. The concern is not brand mixing — it is purity. Mixing certified WESTRON R22 with recycled, contaminated, or substandard R22 from an unknown source is where problems arise. If you are topping up a system that has been running on unknown or suspect refrigerant, it is safer to recover the old gas first, replace the filter drier, and recharge with fresh WESTRON R22.
What is the minimum order quantity for WESTRON refrigerant export to Nigeria?
Al Waleed does not publish a fixed minimum order quantity — we handle orders ranging from a few cylinders shipped by air freight to full pallet sea freight consolidations. The practical minimum for sea freight to Nigeria (to keep landed cost competitive against air freight) is typically one to two pallets of cylinders consolidated with other HVAC products in the same shipment. Single-cylinder orders are more cost-effective by air freight to Lagos or Abuja. WhatsApp our export desk with your required grades, quantities, and preferred shipping method for a specific quote.
How is WESTRON refrigerant shipped to Nigeria — sea or air?
Both options are available. Sea freight from Jebel Ali to Apapa Port (Lagos) or Onne Port (Port Harcourt / Rivers State) takes 10–16 days and is the most cost-effective route for bulk orders — refrigerant gas is an IMDG-classified dangerous good and must be shipped in correctly declared and documented sea freight containers. Air freight to Murtala Muhammed Airport (Lagos) or Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport (Abuja) takes 3–5 days and is suited to urgent smaller orders, though the per-unit cost is significantly higher. Al Waleed prepares all hazardous goods documentation correctly for both routes.
Is R22 still legal to import into Nigeria?
Nigeria is a signatory to the Montreal Protocol and is subject to the Kigali Amendment phase-down schedule for HCFCs including R22. However, as of the current date, R22 import for servicing existing equipment remains permitted in Nigeria — it is not banned for service use, only production of new R22 equipment is restricted. The phase-down schedule means that R22 supply is progressively tightening and prices are rising globally. Nigerian dealers who have large R22 service customer bases should plan their inventory accordingly and consider stocking R417a as an R22 retrofit alternative for customers whose systems cannot be easily converted. Al Waleed recommends consulting a current regulatory update for the latest position — contact our export desk for guidance.
What compressor oil should I use with WESTRON refrigerants?
Oil type is determined by the refrigerant type — not the brand. WESTRON R22 systems use mineral oil or alkylbenzene oil. WESTRON R410a and R32 systems must use POE (polyolester) oil — mineral oil is not miscible with HFC refrigerants and will cause oil separation and compressor failure. WESTRON R134a automotive systems use PAG (polyalkylene glycol) oil. WESTRON R600a fridge compressors use the mineral oil specified by the compressor manufacturer. Al Waleed stocks Motorol compressor oils in all correct grades — they can be consolidated in the same shipment as your WESTRON refrigerant order. See the lubricants page for details.
